Copy Rewrite: Error Messages

Context: GuerillaBox is the one-stop shop for all your communication channels allowing you to have access to multiple accounts in one place.

Task: I was tasked with writing error messages for a login screen that goes below the field and does not exceed 100 characters. I was also assigned to write a pop-up message that allows the user to upgrade to unlimited boxes.

I decided to write the messages in the company’s mascot’s voice since the brand guidelines stated they are quirky and prefer subtle but dry humor.

Here is my design for the login screen:

I used helper text to help the user avoid making mistakes. Personally, I get annoyed when I’m in the middle of typing my email and I get an error message that it’s invalid because I haven’t added the handle. This error message would appear when the user actually has a typo in their email address.

I approached the scenario where an account exists by making it actionable, giving the user an option to sign in.

Here is my design for the upgrade screen:

I went with the greyed out box because it’s familiar and fun. When the user clicks on it the pop-up on the right will appear giving them the option to upgrade or bow out. I also added an “x” in case the user did not want to be approached.
